Amino acids are quaternary compounds of carbon (C), hydrogen (H), oxygen (O) and nitrogen (N) – also called nitrogen in Portugal – sometimes containing sulfur (S), such as cysteine. The general structure of the amino acids involves an amine group and a carboxyl group, both linked to α carbon (the first after the carboxylic group).

Trace Elements are chemical elements that are needed in minute amounts for proper cell growth. These micronutri- ents are essential for many biological processes, e.g. the maintenance of the functionality of enzymes.
